3Com plans expansion in India

Bangalore: 3Com, a provider of secure, converged voice and data networking solutions, Wednesday announced the plans to expand its presence in India. 3Com has a well established presence in China and it recently completed 100 percent acquisition of H3C Technologies, its joint venture with Huawei Technologies in 2003 for Internet Protocol-based routers and switches. India is an emerging market and 3Com is targeting to tap a considerable share in it. In a media briefing here, Peter KY Chai, VP and GM, 3Com South Asia, introduced Mohit Rampal, the newly appointed Country Manager, 3Com India and talked about the company, its products and their strategy for expansion in Asia Pacific region and especially in India. "3Com's mission is to provide customers worldwide with high-quality, low-cost networking infrastructure solutions that enable the convergence of applications and emerging technologies into the network," said Chai. "In India we are mainly looking at making our presence in open service network (OSN) as we see it as the future of networking," said Orcun Tezel, Technical Director, 3Com South Asia, while explaining about the range of 3Com products and solutions. "We are looking at increasing our brand presence in India by providing a wide and flexible range of networking solutions for SMBs and with efficient pre-sales and post sale services. We would also be taking partners for targeting tier two and tier three cities," said Rampal. "We plan to educate our customers through seminars and we recently completed a five city road show," he added. Based in Massachusetts, USA, 3Com has its presence in 40 countries with about 6200 employees worldwide out of which 4,700 are in China. In India, it has its R&D centres in Hyderabad and Bangalore. In the last fiscal, year 2006, the company had a revenue of about $800 million.
