Honeywell to make fire alarms in India

Bangalore: The US-based $36-billion technology major Honeywell International has set up a $3-million manufacturing facility at Gurgaon in Haryana to roll out fire, smoke and gas detectors for Indian and export markets, the company said Monday.

"As there is growth opportunity for fire protection in India, we are expanding our product portfolio with the latest fire detection and notification technology," Honeywell Life Safety President Mark Levy said in a statement released here.

The Indian plant incorporates production designs and processes that have improved efficiencies at Honeywell's manufacturing facilities in Britain, China, Italy, Mexico, Russia and the US.

"We anticipate substantial job growth in manufacturing, facility maintenance, delivery and administration from the new facility, which will be operated by our system sensor and analytics divisions," Honeywell's system sensor division director Arun Khazanchi said.

Besides supplying the detectors to its Indian customers, the new plant will make the safety devices for Middle East, South Asia and Africa.

The plant has an installed capacity to deliver about 500,000 fire alarm detectors and notification devices in the first full year of operation.
