Chennai: Making its first presence outside Chennai, Ehrlich Laboratory, a diagnostic services provider, is opening a new centre in Hyderabad. The move is as part of an ambitious expansion plan of the company for southern India. The new centre will be formally opened on January 15, reported The Economic Times.
The 69-year-old company, reputed to be the oldest private laboratory in the south, has acquired a diabetes clinic in Hyderabad which it is converting into a diagnostic centre.
We have elaborate business plans that we intend to finalize it in the next few weeks or so. Right now, we are entering the Pearl City, with an investment close to Rs 1 crore on the total infrastructure, including systems and equipment, said Shravan Subramanyam, Ehrlich Director.
The deal to acquire the diabetes clinic was facilitated by Digiterati Consultancy Ehrlich, which posted a turnover of $1 million in 2006-07, is targeting an annual growth rate of 50 percent and expects revenues to cross $2.5 million by March 2009, said Dr Subramanyam.
It plans to set up 80 laboratories in south India in the next six years. Observing that the diagnostic services sector was consolidating, Subramanyam said that only a handful of the 26,000 labs in India had the advantage of scale, scope and quality.
Only 500 laboratories are fully automated, while less than 100 have certification from the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories, Dr Subramanyam said.
