India has most cities among 50 emerging BPO hubs

New Delhi: India not only accounts for three out of five top established global destinations for outsourcing but also has the most number of emerging cities in the area, says a study released Monday.

According to a study by CyberMedia's Global Services magazine, the top five established hubs for outsourcing, servicing global corporate world for over a decade, comprise Bangalore, India's National Capital Territory, Manila, Mumbai and Dublin.

Chennai, Hyderabad and Pune are the top three emerging hubs. While Kolkata is at the fifth position, Chandigarh enjoys ninth rank in the list, says the study conducted in association with Tholons, an investment advisory firm.

"Global Services sees the top 50 emerging cities grabbing a much bigger chunk of the global information technology and business process outsourcing (BPO) service pie in the next three years," says Pradeep Gupta, publisher of CyberMedia.

"With the demand-supply gap widening, newer tier II cities will play a critical role in re-engineered globalisation models," added Avinash Vashistha, chairman and chief executive of Tholons.

In terms of established hubs, China comes next with three hot cities - Shanghai at eighth position, Beijing at tenth and Shenzhen at thirteenth. The country also has five emerging destinations.
