Milpitas, CA: At what turned out to be a mass communion ceremony at Indian Community Center here at California, the priest of honor was none other than the former President, distinguished scientist and people voted most able First-Citizen ever, Dr. Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam Azad.
For a packed audience of scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs and students of Indian-American origin, Kalam (as he's popularly known and addressed) delivered a long-withheld, evangelical recital of giving back to the community, people and country.
"'What Can I Give,' is my topic of choice today for you," said Kalam in his most inimitable and sound-of-reverence voice. The event co-hosted by IISc AANA, PanIIT, TiE Silicon Valley and ICC, was the first of its kind where a scientist-politician consorted Indian science-oriented community in the U.S.
"Giving is not about money or material, but it is about sharing your knowledge and experience," said Kalam radiating the message of giving through anecdotes, aphorism and philosophical underpinnings of his own mindful experiences.
Cutting across various issues raised by the gathering, 'the man' defined his definition of 'developed economy dream' as a product of good GDP, raise in number of high income household, plus inherent value system of a particular country or ancestral past. "It is not developed India, but a New-India is what I call it as," said Kalam.
In a 30-minutes power packed discourse, the audiences best moment came when he made them repeat after him on his excerpt of EU speech. The whole hall resonated his words. "Confident nation is a reflection of confident parent, who in turn are reflections of their confident children," said the man who is mostly seen loving the company of children after Chacha Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
