Bangalore: To offset the appreacition of rupee, many IT companies are discussing on asking the employees to work more hours and may be even on Saturdays, reported The Times of India.
To counter the negative impact of appreciating rupee on the company's top and bottom lines, Wipro is discussing the option of getting onsite employees. According to the sources, there is a move among the BPO and IT companies to get their onsite and offshore employee to work for 50 hours a week, instead of 40 now.
Avinash Vashitha, MD, Thaloons, an offshore and onsite advisory firm said that IT and BPO firms are in negotiation with their clients to attract them into an hour-based billing system, wherein software service providers should realize better daily per capita revenues from their onshore and offshore employees.
The rupee appreciation has been so sharp, it has hit every software exporter. According to Infosys chief mentor NR Narayana, the currency changes were beyond any company's control, and the IT industry must look ways to improve productivity.

1: It happens only in Wipro. This is one of the
many crazy things that happen in Wipro. If
you ever visit Wipro's Madhapur facility, you
will get so many live examples.
They convert corridor's, recreation room gymnasium into work places.
Conferences are held in the dinning hall.
One time Azim Premji was in favor of having dev center without cabin or cubics, just linear table, bench structures to support more employees in existing facilities.
You should be a Wipro employ to know how QPLC (Quaterly performance linked compensation ) policy changes with market trends.

2: This is rediculous. If employees should work
saturdays, it should include everone from
senior management onwards, till CEO. This is
like going back to the colonial days, where
the worker was paid peanuts for his whole day
slogging. It is modern colonialism, making
people slog but paying reasonably, so what if
people have money but no time to enjoy it!

3: Just start lowering the salaries and moving
jobs to cheaper cities in India.
That way, the bottomline will be the same.
It is ridiculous that homes are selling at more than $100/sq ft in a third word
country with no infrastructure. Cost of doing business is directly tied to
the greed of real estate carpetbaggers in Bangalore. Employees are already doing
the best they can, don't make them more miserable.

4: Desi companies anyway indirectly force
employees to work over time, due unrealistic
project management styles/schedules.
what is next if rupees appreciates another 10-15 %, ask them to work on Sunday? How diffrent is it from forces labour pratice.
