Dubai: Sharad Pawar, president of the Indian cricket board, and David Morgan, chairman of the England and Wales Cricket Board, are the only two contestants for the post of president of the International Cricket Council (ICC), it was announced here on Tuesday.
Incumbent ICC president Percy Sonn, who took over the top job last year, would be completing his term in June 2008, but his successor would be named by June this year. The last date for filing nominations was Monday.
The nomination committee comprising A.C. Muttiah, Bob Merriman, Mueen Afzal, Stephen Camacho, John Blair and Imran Khwaja will shortly meet to consider the nominations and then make its recommendation to the next ICC executive board meeting in March.
The board will, in turn, make its recommendation to the ICC Annual Conference in London where the voting will take place.
Pawar filed his nomination after all the four Test playing nations of Asia reached a consensus to support his candidature at the Asian Cricket Council meeting in Singapore.
A candidate must secure support from two-thirds of the 10 full members at the annual conference to be successfully voted into the top post.
