Open Source to pervade enterprise users

Bangalore: Open source seems to be the buzzword that is set to pervade enterprises over the next few years. According to industry sources, enterprise open source buyers will turn into systems integrators, as the architectural approaches to open source will be predominant. They in turn can give a blueprint to create and manage an infrastructure aligned with their business strategy.

Specialized stacks for business applications like- the LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP, Python/Perl) are expected to emerge according to Unisys experts.

According to Ali Shadman, Vice President and General Manager, Open Source Solutions, Systems and Technology, Unisys: “In 2007, we’ll see a rise in more differentiated open source stacks for specific purposes such as business intelligence, content management and output management.” He added
that each specialized stack would constitute a ‘black box’- a plug and play; minimally configurable building block designed to fit naturally in modern data center environments and accomplish a single job from the outset.

Many are now using OSA to drive top line business growth as SOA is expected to close the gap between legacy and open systems. Open Source is set to rule as many organizations see open source as a way to reduce costs- for both technology acquisition and ongoing ownership.
