$280,000 a year job offer for Chennai patent holder
Chennai: Neither he is an IIM graduate nor a chartered accountant. R. Shivaraman is a nanotechnology researcher from Chennai, who has been hired by hardware manufacturer Seagate Technology at an annual pay packet of $280,000 (1.4 crore).

Jointly with C. Gopalakrishnan, who like him is also with the Nanotechnology Research Centre at the SRM University, Chennai, holds an Indian patent for an innovation that enables a hard drive to hold a large amount of data - 30 terabyte (TB) - as against the current storage capacity of 500 gigabyte.

On the occasion, Shivaraman said, "Patent under the U.S. law is awaited. Polymer templated lithography process which allows fabrication of patterned magnetic media with density of around 30TB."

According to him, the technology for ultra-high data storage is already available and his innovation scores over others in the time taken to fabricate the hard drives. "I brought an engineering solution to the problem. Using our technology one can make eight hard drives in a minute," said he.

Shivaraman is all set to join Seagate in December by which time he will get his doctorate in nanotechnology.

1: In India Merit is Out, Quotas are in. Result Achievers like Shivaramans, Venkatramans (Nobel) KR Sridhar (Fuel Cell) have no respect, feel unwanted and leave for the US.

6: Article Says like"Shivraman" is not from IIM/CA,
But i feel like he deserves for that type of achievement,
Any how he is the Inoovator of such type technology, If that is on Indian Soil.......that would be proud to be as an Indian

8: Given a choice, I would have started a company of my own to sell such hard drives across the world and earned recognition for India

9: well done sound positive and this is what engineers do ,by the way is SRM research centre on SRM Engineering college campus (on way to kancheepuram from madras) if so it is a bit of nostalgia as I have done my B.E from Hindustan College of Engineering Padur (old mahabalipuram road) and have seen currently it ranks very high for students to pursue a course in engineering discipline .

10: nothing new that an indian created a technology... but it is very heartening to see that the same is done in indian soil.
It could have been lot better if sivaraman tried to have the innovation with an indian firm. This is more important now that US is looking itself more regionally than globally, especially in relation to India and it.
Well ... money is money
