20 Indian firms make it to the Forbes List

Twenty Indian companies including State Bank of India (SBI), Reliance, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and exploration major Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) have made it to the first Forbes List of top 2,000 companies.

NEW DELHI: SBI tops the list of Indian companies with a ranking of 268. Three out of the first five slots of Indian companies have been bagged by state-owned entities including several state-owned petroleum and banking entities. Refining major IOC, which was the only company named in the Fortune 500 list of global companies, has been slotted in the 325 rank by Forbes, and ONGC at 351. The list has ranked world's biggest companies on the yardstick of sales, profits, assets and market value. Of the companies in the Global 2,000 list, U.S.-based companies dominate the list with 776 entries. Next is Japan with 331, followed by Britain with 132. Aggregate revenue of the Global 2,000 companies is $18 trillion, employing around 63 million people. Among private Indian companies, Reliance Industries is in top with a ranking of 306 in the global list. Other Indian companies that have made it to the list include ICICI (907), Bharat Petroleum Corporation (956), Hindustan Lever (1,019), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (1,091), Bank of India (1,313), Bank of Baroda (1,344), ITC (1,352) and Canara Bank (1,365). Gail India Ltd (1,370), software major Infosys Technologies (1,397), Industrial Development Bank of India (1,403), Wipro (1,430), Punjab National Bank (1,431), Housing Development Finance Corporation (1,550), Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (1,680) and Ranbaxy Laboratories (1,800) are also in the coveted list.
