17% of IT job applicants in India falsify claims: survey

NEW DELHI: A survey conducted by the Indian arm of global risk management firm Hill and Associates revealed that about 17 percent of candidates falsify claims while applying for a job. The survey has also stated that with many companies now screening candidates more rigorously before employment, there has been a reduction in the number of candidates providing incorrect information. The tendency to falsify claims is more prone among IT professionals, where about one-fifth of applicants provide exaggerated information about job profile, including the designation and projects handled. As per the survey, about 80 percent of incorrect claims were related to inflated durations of previous employment and entirely fictitious employment.
