The rapid urbanization witnessed in the country over the last few years has made cities the major pivots of economy. The cities are the main sources of productivity and offer great business opportunities. Moreover, the job opportunities they provide reflect the quality of life in the country. The evaluation of cities is a great indicator towards the overall progress of the nation.

Measuring a city's competitiveness mainly involves tracking investment and infrastructure. As the world gears up to invest in India, a proper study of Indian economic landscape is an absolute necessity for assisting foreign and domestic investors to understand our cities in terms of their relative competitiveness. Institute for Competitiveness (IFC) is an international think tank that works to put together a body of knowledge that encompasses economic distribution, business environments, distribution of wealth and enhancing productivity. IFC has been over the years releasing an annual list of India's most competitive cities.
