The legend is all set to bring the curtain down of a magnificent 24-year career with his 200th test match against West Indies, at his home ground, Wankhede stadium. After dominating for nearly a quarter century, The 'Little Master' will retire leaving behind records that will not only be hard to beat but may never be broken.

1. Early life:

Being a diehard fan of Sachin Dev Burman, Ramesh Tendulkar- father of Sachin Tendulkar, named him after his favourite music director. As a young boy, he was considered as bully and a mischievous boy who often picked up fights with new children in his school. So, it was his brother, Ajit Tendulkar who introduced him to cricket in 1984, mainly to control his mischievous and bullying habits. Subsequently, he was introduced to Ramakant Achrekar, a famous cricket coach and a club cricketer of repute, at Shivaji Park, Dadar. His coach used to encourage others to dismiss Sachin for prize money of a one rupee coin but Sachin always remained unbeaten and got to keep those coins. Sachin still has 13 of those coins.

2. Cricket not his first choice?

Yes! Cricket was not the first choice of this legend. Those days, Sachin’s idol was John McEnroe and even he showed an interest in tennis prior to venturing into this field.
