Amit Kachroo
Project Engineer NSN
Nokia Siemens Networks
Brief description about me
Hello, my name is Amit Kachroo. I work with Nokia Siemens Networks as Project Engineer,PMO, Managed Services India. This is my first organisation which i joined in 2010 after graduating from National Institute of Technology Srinagar in year 2009 and I am having a real good time with NSN.
Well, as a part of PMO (project management organisation) I have contributed, lead and coordinated on many diverse technical projects. Sometimes, a project can involve around 10-11 stakeholders and sometimes 3-4 stakeholders. Nokia Siemens Networks has a very flexible and open work culture and it promotes open communication irrespective of what level you are and that way it has really helped to build up confidence in me to lead projects.
Challenges in job
The biggest challenge in Project management is people management. Well, you can always manage, customize and adapt the systems but when it comes to the human part that is where most efforts and challenges arise. As I have already mentioned NSN promote open communication and it has helped me a lot.
From my personality perspective, it has brought a tremendous change. I used to be a very shy character at school but as the work demands and as time progressed I am no more shy .In fact, this will be a surprise to my colleagues who always take me as very outspoken .Also, this new personality trait has opened me many doors, when it comes to making professional relations and performing my task.
Job made easy
It all boils down to your personal traits. I really believe if you are open to any challenge then the results are just to follow. It makes your 70% task as done while the 30% depends on your company and support you get from your organisation. Well I must say that MNC’s like NSN really helps to connect the dots.
Upcoming Trends
The telecom industry has seen a rapid shift from product selling to software and now solution selling. The way these solutions and consultancy is provided will determine the market leader. As far as NSN goes, it has a transformed itself for the same and that is why our results speak this time very good.
Prospective towards India technological developments
I believe it is the atmosphere in cascade to our education that doesn’t promote entrepreneurship. I don’t find any university fully focused on harnessing entrepreneurship .Today our country needs more leaders and entrepreneurs than ever as we are having a huge talent on stall.
My goal
I see myself as a chief solution architect in coming 5 years. It is a very interesting job profile that demands a mix of technical expertise and business and I have full confidence in me about my transition to this position.
family background
I belong to a low middle class family and was brought up in Jammu and Kashmir. My Dad works with Army and mom is a housewife. I have one sister who is also pursuing her engineering. Interesting fact about me is that I am the first one from my family and my district area who has an engineering degree and who is working outside Jammu and Kashmir
Advice to professionals
What to do:: communicate openly ,be helpful to others and last but not the least keep learning. What not to do:: participate in office politics
Advice to students
I always advice my college buddies to be very proactive, be studious…..Participate in more and more technical symposiums, conferences, discussions, etc and for that sake I would recommend silicon India to be the best online discussion platform. It is these small small things that will build effective communication skills, problem solving skills and a holistic understanding of business and technical world and will land you in some real good place apart from your good academic score.
