Could you tell us briefly about your family background?
I am married to Bhuvaneswari who was my buddy during college days. I stay in Mumbai with my wife but basically from Salem town in Tamil Nadu where my family currently resides. My mother and grand mother staying together in my home town. My younger sister is married and a mother of one girl baby.
Current and Previous Responsibilities
I'm working as an automation test engineer using a Ruby scripting. My current role is a challengable than my previous role because the application which I test isn't having a GUI. We are not using any testing IDE tools to test. We designed our own framework from the scratch & use it for our testing.
Plans for the Future
In a couple of years, I would like to start my own consulting & services firm in my hometown. Also, I would like to give more opportunities for freshers who have the practical capability than the theoretical.
Role Model
One and only my Father. I've learnt bad and good things from him. But he is not anymore with us now. He handles any tough situation with a cute smiling face. He is my hero.
Points of inflection
The second project in my first company which gave me a chance to work in automation testing without anyone's help. That was the place where I have learnt more about handling the project with the less resources available.
Degrees that Matter
Certifications are always a value added to your profile. Though I haven't attempted for any certifications which I'm planning since long. I recommend to earn a certification in ISTQB, HP QTP certifications and do more research in testing domain.
Parting thoughts
Experiment more and practice it. Don't be theoretical, be practical. Think different and try it. Nothing is impossible. Every problem has many solutions, but we have to identify which solution will be the best one. It will come only through a practice.
The Journey So Far
I discontinued my engineering at 2nd yr due to my father had passed away. Then I was in direct marketing where I was selling books in doors. After 2yrs decided to continue my science graduation in IT. Selected in Infosys through Off campus. First project was manual and then in automation till now.
A Fine Balance:
Before the marriage, I was alone. So there was nothing to differentiate work and life. But now the differentiation makes sense. Spend some good time with your time. I never shown a work pressure in my home. I don't take my office work along with me when I leave for the day.
Essential Advice
Testing is not easy to do. Testing is to break the application. So you have to think just opposite to the developer. The job is interesting and at the same time challenging. There are good scope in a testing area to utilize. So research more and experiment.
Currently working at
I work as an automation test engineer in one of the french bank's India solutions company. Here we use Ruby scripting for our testing. Since this is banking domain, I learn more about financial products especially Capital Markets. The product deals with money, so the testing is more important here.
Areas for the Future
You should have at least some basic knowledge in Automation Testing, Performance testing & Penetration testing even though you are in Manual. This will definitely boom in short future and have a good scope.
Most Important Lessons
Professional life taught me even how to speak. This life is an another face of my life. I learnt the corporate world, being competitive, being different than others.
