My role model
My role model is my father, who topped in MA(Sankrit) as private student, when I (fifth child), was born. Twice he received awards from Hon. President of India, for his contribution in Sanskrit. A person who never waste any time of day. Even at this age of 80, he keeps himself busy with writing books, articles and in his spare time, gardening. He has been an advocate of rules and commitments in his life.
My achievements
I have yet to achieve my goals, although the best achievement of carreer so far been,

Setting up Disaster Recovery for SAP based business critical environments for two of the companies I worked in.

Handled multiple different portfolios together as being performance engineer, leading partner development team, leading and contributing to setting up the Partner Engineerng Lab, Evanglist for Sun Technologist and delivered technology boot camps/talks in India, Indonesia, Thailand, SriLanka, Singapore and Malaysia at Sun Microsystems India.

On a generic end, I am much proud of my dedication to work and confidence in my knowledge, whatever I have gained through my career. I have been a good motivator and inspire team to deliver the best.
My strongest skill
My strongest skills are Unix/Linux Operational and Datacenter strategies.
Qualities needed to become a successful leader

Have, in depth knowledge in the area you work on and be honest to yourself.

Promote and advocates work life balance

Be a good listener

Command the team through your own achievements of excellence and setting examples, rather than order.

Respect your peers and team working with and under you.

Promote innovative thoughts and ideas.

Keep updated with latest in the technology domain.

Understand the business needs for every single technical work you are engaged on.
Initiative to develop a country
Be innovative in their thoughts. Find opportunities out of regional geographical problems. Instead of working on the model based on the developed countries, one should think about model suitable to move developing country to a developed country.
My family background
I was born and brought up in the regions of Himalaya ( Joshimath, Tehri and Almora). I did most of my education in Almora, a small town in the state of Uttarakhand.

My father is Retired Professor and HOD of Sanskrit and mother has been housewife ensuring we are given right level of teachings at home.

My wife Dr Lata Upreti is a doctor (Consultant Pathologist) and my son Aniruddha is 12 years.
Important lesson learned
If you do not enjoy or are not comfortable with kind of work you are on, learn to say no to such work and just don't do it, as you may end up being a disaster to the work. At the end of day, work should give you a progressive path in your career.
Ensure, you are not just working for Managers/Bosses, but for the company who is paying you for your engagement with the company. So do not try to make your manager happy, rather make company happy by innovative thought process and skills.
And lastly, don't be happy at where you are, rather explore opportunities on where you can be at. Always have hunger to learn new technologies and keep updates with latest in the IT world.
Degree that I recommend
TOGAF and Cloud based certifications are on my priority lists. Next will be short term business courses to get better understanding of financial and leadership aspect of business growth.
Ensuring success
Keep challenging myself with new thinking and ideas. Keep myself updated with latest technologies in the IT Infrastructure world. Certifications and training supports me growing and developing.

Thoughts on Education system of our country
The education system should be more practical and should be focused on considering regional problems.
The technology should be explored to people who are unable to understand and speak in English, by educating them technology in National Language (Hindi) or in their regional languages.
Education should be focused to make a student a good Indian rather then a bookworm.
India is blessed with old Gurukul system of education and we should be proud and promote the similar patterns in schools.
At the moment multiple education systems create differences among students ( state, central - CBSE, ICSE). We should have single education system and policies across all over India. Most of the government school education is getting into a bad shape. By having single education system and committed education by teachers, there is a possible way to improve our education quality.
Influenced by
My brother, Sanjay Upreti, who is Advisory in IBM. His dedication and innovative thoughts always inspire me learning something new.
