Could you tell us briefly about your family background?
My family consists of my parents, wife and a child.Dad is a retired Indian Air Force officer and Mother a retired school principal. Wife Nisha is a Software professional. My son Arjun is now 2 years old.
Role Model
My Parents. They knew what they were doing and I am proud to say Best teacher awards came searching for my mother and my dad was decorated for Exemplary character and hardwork. They had a simple philosophy-Do your job, sincerely, passionately and with dedication - never look for the fruit of action.
Changes in the industry
11 years ago, when I started, we had been doing multiple roles. There were not strict guidelines or processes in place especially in small and medium sized companies. Slowly it started as a practice and is matured as a stream in Software engineering, which is now a crucial part.
Tech trends to watch out for
Development of newer technologies bring about newer trends accomodating them. besides - The adoption of early lifecycle validation to fix defects early in the lifecycle(requirements based testing, risk based testing etc)-Test management by metrics for quick decision making -Domain centric testing.
Current and Previous Responsibilities
Planning, prioritization of all the test-related tasks (use proven project management tools such as the V-Cycle or Scrum methodology),Writing the test strategies,Reviewing the test plans,mentor and coach if people have not the required competencies,Run Triages, Team building, Decision making etc.
Plans for the Future
I see myself growing in this industry with experience and knowledge acquired. In a couple of years I will be in a senior management role in testing.
The Journey So Far
A testing journey. Working with consulting organizations, was fortunate to work with many clients in a varied set of domains ranging from biosciences,healthcare, banking, entertainment, media,insurance etc.varied technologies from mainframes to ERP to ecommerce applications..now into Test Management
Most Important Decisions
Aligning with Test Management was a deliberate decision I took when I got another opportunity. This was deliberate because this is what I know the best and think I can contribute more on.
Most Important Lessons
A few of them are: No job is mean. Take control of how you want to be treated. Teach to learn more. Coach to learn the virtue of patience.Surround yourself with stimulating conversation by the smartest people around. Be an active participant and do not fear to take initiatives. Let Actions speak.
