Brief description about me
Born and brought up in South Kashmir’s Pulwama township to an educated family, I have always believed to be a 'useful’ than a ‘successful’ person in life. I did my Bachelors in English, Biology and Chemistry from the University of Kashmir and secured 1st position in BSc (General) and Second rank in the over all merit of the University. I cracked the Combined Entrance Examination for Biotechnology (CEEB) held by JNU and chose University of Pune for my Masters in Biotech. After carrying out my project in the field of Nanobiotechnology from National Chemical Laboratory (NCL) and National Centre for Cell Science (NCCS), I took one year off from my studies. During this year I was involved with teaching, Radio Jockeying (hosting english music and discussion programs on Radio Kashmir Srinagar) and was associated with Reliance Life Insurance as a Manager.

I got PhD calls from 7 Universities around the world and also got the prestigious Endeavour Postgraduate Award (fellowship for 3 years) from the Australian government for carrying out my PhD in Australia. I chose University of Zurich for my research in Laser Spectroscopy. I use Laser spectroscopy to see how proteins and small molecules ‘communicate’  between each other and in the molecule itself; by dumping energy with one laser pulse at one point in the molecule and tracking its progression across the molecule with a different laser pulse. This field of research (Femtochemistry) was developed by Ahmed Zewail, from Egypt—the 1999 Nobel Laureate.

Before joining the University of Zurich, I was a manager with Reliance Life Insurance and had a team of 12 financial advisors working under me. Apart from carrying my research, I am involved with free academic counseling to the students from J&K and have featured in many talk shows as an academic counselor on TV and Radio (Prasar Bharti Broadcasting Corp of India). I also run a counseling page on Facebook under the name 'Kashmir Counseling'. I conduct counseling events and talks for students in my homestate whenever I go for holidays.

Family Background
My dad superannuated recently from services. He served as an Assistent Executive Engineer with the Irrigation Department of Government of Jammu and Kashmir. My mom is a homemaker. Elder sister is married and works as a teacher in a local school. My younger brother is doing MTech in Structural Design (Civil Engineering) from NIT Srinagar - J&K.

Advice to students
Sometimes circumstances make you dance to someone else's tunes, but if you could realize even 50% of your dream--that is your triumph. I am happy to see myself doing something today, which I had dreamed of when I was a kid. Dare to dream and dream to dare. Nothing is impossible. Luck is but hard work in a beautiful attire.
