Advice For New Professionals:
Stay focused and learn on your way as it is going to help you sometimes in future.
Involvement in the Industry
One of the accomplishments is featuring in Asiamoney polls during 2009 among top 30 Oil and Gas analysts in India. Recommended a couple of stocks like IGL and Petronet LNG to clients in 2009 which made returns of over 2-3x for which some of the clients recognize me.
Changes In The Professional Environment:
When I joined the capital markets in 2005 as a junior analyst, the industry was booming, players were expanding. However, post Lehman meltdown, the industry took a serious beating with lower activity in capital markets with lower commissions, large number of players vying for the same pie. This led to cost cutting measures with salary cuts, headcount cuts and eventually consolidation in the industry. With dominance of MNC players, the domestic players' share has been going down which is leading to uncertainty about jobs. Also, growth has stalled without any positive outlook for the time being.
Job Profile:
Experienced investment professional with 8+ years of fundamental equity research experience and 4 years of experience in specialty chemical plant operations. Primarily an Oil and Gas sector specialist with additional experience in covering agrochemicals, chemicals, infra and pharmaceuticals sectors. Recognized for stock pickings from long term and trading perspective.
Updating the institutional clients like FIs, Mutual funds etc. about the sector dynamics through interaction with company managements, external agencies, company reports etc. providing relevant data to the buy side professionals as per requests.
The Decisions That Matter
After working in process (chemical) industry and while pursuing a part time diploma in financial management, I realised my inclination towards financial markets. The thought of entering into financial markets led me to prepare for competitive exams like CAT and CET through which I was able to secure admission for MBA in K. J. Somaiya Instt. of Mgmt. Studies and Research. MBA in Finance helped me to enter into financial field which is the most important career decision I have taken during my career.
Plans For The Future:
I would like to be stable in an organisation with a vision to stay there and grow organically.
Role Model:
Mr. Narayan Murthy. He has chased his dream and he has also taken his friends along with him and later even the employees. Infosys culture has given rise to a spate of entrepreneurs. He is a billionaire and yet he is so humble and using his wealth for innovation and philanthropy.

Family Background
I come from a middle class family with my late father working as a junior engineer in state electricity board while mother being a home maker. My wife is an MBA and currently working in similar industry and we have a 19 month old son.
The Journey So Far:
As a Chemical Engineer I worked on the shop floor taking care of plant operations with the help of chemists and workers. Post MBA, I entered in capital markets starting as a junior analyst and over a period of time garnered knowledge about Oil and Gas sector to become an experienced analyst over the past 8+ years. Slowdown in capital market activity and proliferation of players led to cut throat competition with players shutting down their businesses which has led to uncertainty and instability now. Although, the journey is satisfactory till now, am looking for stability and progression in career.
Prized Accomplishment(s):
During 2009, I was featured in top 30 Oil and Gas analysts in Asiamoney polls withing a period of about 3 years covering the sector.
Career Profile:
Responsibilities in current role include, updating the institutional clients like FIs, Mutual funds etc. about the sector (currently looking after oil & gas and agrochemicals sector) dynamics through interaction with company managements, external agencies, company reports etc. providing relevant data to the buy side professionals as per requests. My profile during the past 8+ years has remained largely the same.
Growth Strategy:
I am a learner and try to communicate with the industry people to enhance my knowledge which is beneficial.
Working Life Management:
If not during the weekdays, I make sure I sped the weekends with family. We plan at least a week long vacation a year with small weekend vacation a couple of times.
