Important of STP

Segmentation is extremely important as it allows you to target and position variations of the same product to different market segments. For example a car manufacturer may create different models to cater for different segments using the same manufacturing facilities and workforce.
Family Background
My father was a Civil Engineer and my mother an artist. The moved to the Middle East in early seventies and lived and worked there for over 30 years. They both passed away a few years ago. I have two brothers, one in the UAE and the other in Canada. I am married and settled in the UK since 1984.
Contribution to the field
Currently I am self employed and work as an independent marketing and media consultant. In this role I have the freedom to pick and choose the projects I like to work on and hence enjoy them.
Positioning the product
I am a Chartered Marketer, Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and Fellow of the Institute of Digital and Direct Marketing. Having over 30 years of experience in media and marketing, I use a few professional consultancies that market me plus I get work through these institutes as well.
Importance of sales
In any business sales are extremely important. They provide the bread and butter for your business. No matter how good your products or services are, if you can't sell them they are of no use. Even in a non-profitable organisation revenue generation is a must for it to function.
Competitiveness
Over the years the methodolgy and applications of marketing have changed while the basic principles of marketing still remain the same. Marketing is still the vehicle which takes your product/service to the end user/consumer/customer.
What suggestions would you like to give to the aspirants who want to make their career in Marketing only?
As the routes and channels to market have changed with the growt in technology, so have the diversity in marketing. Due to the specific types/areas in the marketing field at present, it is best to specialise in one or two areas e.g. Digital Marketing, Social Media Marketing, Direct Marketing etc.
Future trend
Due to the availability of and easy accessibility to the new technology marketers will face new challenges everyday. They are now able to connect with the consumer at every touch point i.e. 360 degrees marketing. Technology based marketing will continue to grow with even more channels emerging.
Importance of STP
Segmentation is extremely important as it allows you to target and position variations of the same product to different market segments. For example a car manufacturer may create different models to cater for different segments using the same manufacturing facilities and workforce.
Growth
Education, education, education. In this competitve environment one must stay ahead by continuously learning and updating one's knowledge. There are a large number of organisations that offer CPD (Continuous Professional Development) which are also sometimes qualification led.
Marketing
Marketing is the process that delivers your product/service to the consumer. Its importance is that of a backbone. You may have the best product/service in the world but without marketing consumer/s will never know about it. Hence marketing is crucial for the success of any organisation.
Motivating
First and foremost I always listen to them. Then I teach them to learn from their mistakes and tell them that tomorrow is the first day of the rest of their lives. Use reasearch and keep a keen eye on the competition. Evaluate, compare, learn and be creative.
Growth Prospect in marketing
There is no magical solution or medicine to achieve success. Honesty and hard work always pay. And that applies to any stream. Sit back and think what will make you better than the rest. Learn and read about new developments so you always stay ahead of the game.
Future prospect
I don't think I will ever retire. As long as my I am fit and well I will continue working. Perhaps teaching as I feel that I have a duty to pass on all the knowledge that I have gained over so many years to others so they can benefit from it.
Branding
Branding is an important part of marketing. Good branding always provides results by creating a better recall value. A good example is that when you go to buy a product for the first time you are most likely to pick a brand that you have heard of before rather the one you are seeing for the 1st time
Recommended Courses and Certification
While a Masters degree in Marketing provides you with the basic foundation, further specialist certification is vital. For example Certificate or Diploma in Direct and Digital Marketing, as this covers all areas when using technology for marketing. Memberships of professional bodies is also a must.
