Could you tell us briefly about your family background?
Basically, I belong to a family with mix value of traditionalism and modernism – best values from both extracted and injected in me. When it comes to traditionalism, Indian values, traditions, cultures whereas modern values like no pardah (veil)culture, modern education etc. are highly dominating.
Other Thoughts:
Yes,my career into different phases of evolution. The first phase of phylogeny was highly associated with real life of India, rural connection, rural life style. Second phase started when I have been sent to Aligarh Muslim University. Third phase, when I joined Ethiopia as Indian Expatriate.
The Journey So Far:
The starting point of journey in corporate world began when I was selected to study in Aligarh Muslim University. This journey in AMU is very long – 11th to Ph.D. in this phase, I shifted to Delhi where I joined Hamdard IAS Study Circle and finally joined as Asst.Professor in Ethiopia.
Job Profile:
Presently, I am serving as Assistant Professor in the School of Governance and Development Studies, Hawassa University, Government of Ethiopia. Apart from professional academic contributions, I am rendering my professional services in administrative affairs in overall reform agendas of development.
Required Reading:
Some of them are the books written by classical philosophers like Plato’s “Republic”; Aristotle’s “Politics”; Machiavelli’s “The Prince”;Samuel Huntington’s “The Clash of Civilizations”; F. A. Hayek’s “The Road to Serfdom”; Amartya Sen’s “Development As Freedom” etc. UN and Govt. Portals.
Role Model:
The most important person after Prophet Muhammad as role model is the founder of Aligarh Muslim University – Sir Syed Ahmed Khan. His missions and visions are as relevant to the present society of India in special and the world society in general as they were in in his own time.
Advice For New Professionals:
Only those people should enter into this teaching industry who are gifted and capable enough to take responsibility of educating and empowering the future generation. Secondly, they have to be a role model not only for students but also to their respective institutions as well as to their society.
Prized Accomplishment(s):
Being an alumnus of Aligarh Muslim University, associated with Aligarh Movement, the movement which carries the seed of enlightenment makes me proud. Secondly, Allah makes me able to serve the country like Ethiopia where I am very much happy than serving to other developed nations/countries.
Plans For The Future:
At present, I am serving in Hawassa University as Assistant Professor; in couple of years too I will render my service to this country and even more than that with expectation of modified designation. However, no one can predict about the future.
The Decisions That Matter
I left my parents once I admitted to AMU from 11th to Ph.D. Once again for career decision, I left my wife, child. These two stages of career decisions are very important for me where at both stages I lost my emotions of childhood (away from parents) and fatherhood (away from child) respectively.
Done Differently:
I don’t think there might be any difference.
Career Profile:
There is no difference in previous profile and present profile. I was in teaching industry, I am in teaching industry and I will be in the same industry.
Changes In The Professional Environment:
There are lot of changes I observed in the professional environment. The most important change is the shifting attitude of instructors from self-centered to student-centered. Now the instructors need to change themselves from dictatorial attitude to democratic attitude in teaching-learning process.
