More about myself
Nil
Couple of years from now
I would still be teaching medical and nursing students and conducting medical research.
Degree that I recommend
Yes, one can acquire a post graduate degree in Pharmacology i.e either an MD, MSc or M.Pharm and also later do a PhD in the same subject.
Qualities needed to become a successful leader
I think Perseverance, positive attitude, humility and hard work.
My achievements
I am not proud of my achievements, although I have published some good research articles and also some hypothetical in nature which could be the harbinger for new avenues in medical research. I have proposed a novel physiological cascade in the human body. I am happy to teach medical students and impart training to many others in the field of medical research. I stand solidly for India's economic growth and to realise its full potential, literacy for all Indians and reduction of poverty. I think India must reduce all the barriers for growth and follow the model of China and curtail unnecessary hurdles to its economic growth. I am a staunch believer in strong and united India which can be the beacon of progress for all on this planet.
My family background
My late father was in the Indian Navy and later with the ONGC and my mother Rajani comes from a humble background and was a home maker. I have two brothers and one sister. My youngest brother is a Engineer and MBA and is a businessman. He is in the real estate business and has a beverage bottling plant in the Noida area near Delhi. My other brother Pankaj works with an American multinational company and is a technocrat and Manager with that company in Chandigarh. My sister is a science graduate married to a software engineer working as the Professor and Head of IT in a Engineering college near Delhi. My Father in law is a retired Professor of Chemistry, University of Rajasthan.
My role model
There is no one particular role model, however I admired Mr.Rajiv Gandhi as a political leader and visionary of our times and now in the contemporary times another good and sincere person in politics is Mr.Arvind Kejriwal. In sports my favourite was Sunil Gavaskar and Kapildev in cricket and Vishy Anand in Chess. In films, I like Amitabh B and Shatrughan sinha and Sharmila Tagore and Mumtaz. I love Lata Mangeshkar and Mukesh songs. In science, I have admired scientists like Dr.Peter Agre, Dr. John Vane and Dr.Venkat Ramakrishna, whom incidently I have met.
Brief description about me
My name is Manoj G Tyagi, aged 51 years and working as Professor of Pharmacology, CMC, Vellore, TN, India. I am married to Nidhi Tyagi and have a daughter, Vishakha a student of B.Tech.
Important lesson learned
I think it is imperative to be patient in life and take good care of your anxities and share your pains and pleasures with your close relatives and friends. I think for all Indians we should adapt to modern technology and export technologically advanced goods. Consume as much as you can in your life time both material and edible goods with in your economic means. You can imagine how 1.2 billion people can change this country and the world. Do not be jealous of others achievements and make your own best efforts.
My strongest skill
I think I am a reasonably good teacher with my own way of wit and charm and I am never reluctant to help my subordinates for their career achivements and I am happy if they do better than me in their lives and careers. I believe in doing and conducting good research, write grants and publish research papers, attend conferences in India and abroad. Share my knowledge and expertise with all my subordinates or peers. My research interests are in the area of phospholipid biochemistry and water and electrolyte metabolism and related disorders.
Influenced by
This is a difficult question, however my mother more than anybody else, my teachers and my experiences of working in various medical centers and universities in India and abroad. My Professors and teachers Dr.Vishnu Prakash, Dr.Shailendra Vajpeyee, Dr.Usha Shah have helped my career and influenced me considerably.
Important decision
I think the most important decision after completing my Masters in Medical science from BJ Medical College in Ahmedabad was to pursue a PhD programme at the CMC Vellore and my brief stint at the National University of Singapore really made me passionate to take up teaching and research as a career. I have been working at the CMC Vellore for the last 16 years and this has been a reasonably good decision. I think my training at the laboratory of Dr.Samir Brahmachari, IISc Bangalore also was a good decision and have improved my knowledge and research skills.
Thoughts on Education system of our country
I think although we have improved the general standards of education in India ( 73 %) but we have also faltered in not achieving the targets of complete literacy. This is a failure of political will and implementation. India must involve both the corporate sector and the government to impart free primary education for all. Education of women is critical for better society and national economic growth. India must also work towards controlling its spiralling human population because this can aid the spread of literacy.
Ensuring success
Well, as I am not a IT professional and have no ambition to start my own entrepreneurship, I will continue to work as a teacher and scientist and write more research grants and do fundamental research and train young minds. I do travel abroad and learn from the expertise and experiences over there and try and imbibe those values over here.
Initiative to develop a country
I think India's vast intellectual man power and its knowledge reserve can transform India. Do not just think of your own selves all the time and must help India to be on the right track. Criticise and contribute to the well being of India in this aspect. Personal gains are not always higher than the gains for all our country man. Hold your head high as an Indian and work for peace and tranqulity, economic prosperity for all our country man. Even if you stay outside of India you can do your needful for this country. Speak out for implementing right policies in economic, education, foreign and defence affairs. OK allright.

Jai Hind.
