Could you tell us briefly about your family background?

Wife with two daughters. Wife is working for a reputed telecom firm as a Deputy Manager. Elder daughter goes to Ist standard and the younger one is 7 months old. A small family who live in simple lifestyle and committed to maintain good relationship with everyone.

Role Model

My wife, without whom I've never been settled in this field. Initially she encouraged me to attend training and interview, against my interest. But now I need to admit that she was right then. Now I feel that I am good enough to be in this field. Everything turned out to be perfect.

Current and Previous Responsibilities

My current role is Senior SAP ABAP Consultant. I did not hold any different role earlier. I worked in the same domain throughout my professional career. I deal with global customers. My responsibilities include design, develop, test, support of critical objects and leading a technical team.

Degrees that Matter

Neither I did any certification nor my degree helped me to get into the field. I've been trained and placed as a trainee initially. I certainly recommend the readers to get the relevant training in SAP ABAP and complete the certification, which will help them a lot in finding a right career.

Areas for the Future

Whoever is working or aspiring to become SAP ABAP consultant, please make sure that there are some areas in which you need to be specialized. As the testing and finding the root cause of an issue is concerned you need to be an expert in the area of "debugging" the SAP standard or customized code.

Plans for the Future

As every person has an ambition to achieve in the near future. I would like to grow to the next level in my role, briefly this role could be the Project Lead - leading a complete project with different domains from client's place. Direct interaction with the client and delivering solutions.

A Fine Balance:

When it is Mon-Fri, I stick to delivering solutions to the client and there is a little bit room to be with family. And when its a weekend only family no work. Work life balance sometimes affect because of extra efforts at work and my family understand the need for putting extra efforts at work.

Essential Advice

These days its becoming difficult for a person who want to start a career in this domain as every company asking for experience professionals. Here the certification and the relevant degree play the vital role. Finish the certification along with relevant degree then getting a breakthrough is easy.

Most Important Lessons

You wont learn until you make any mistake. Think & Consult experts before committing anything to the client. Never speak anything which you do not know with the client. Maintain a proper communication with the client. Always try to give simple & straight solution to the client requirement.

Changes in the industry

I found lot of changes in the industry from the time I started. Initially the clients in India and other countries were not ready to migrate their current systems to SAP but slowly the transition increased. And these days most of the clients run their business on SAP. SAP really changed the world.

Currently working at

In my current role, client requirements are documented in SAP terminology by the functional consultants. I pick up the requirement and after a quick analysis, design the prototype. Once the client is convinced with the prototype the actual development begins and QA & testing process follows.
