My advice
Upcoming management leader should have good listening skills and should make balance of functional skills and soft competencies in his team. One should work like Leader and not Manager.
Important career decisions
The most important career decision was to stick in my one of the previous company for 5+ years to gain stability and learn tasks of various departments. This changes the thought process all together. The next best decision was to work in Genpact which has best LSS framework in the industry.
Ensuring Growth
Learn Learn & Learn.
It is a never ending journey for success. Gradually I am adding up the certifications to make myself up-to-date as per industry.
Current Job description
Curently I am leading the quality function of 1 delivery center and working as LSS Black Belt.
Handling Grievances
There are 2 important aspects:
1. Make person at-ease by starting the conversation on a lighter note and away from topic... initial 2-3 minutes
2. And then listen before advising or routing to appropriate channel
My views on India Technical development
Things are diversified and talents too. All loose threads should be tied efficiently to bring desired results. I am thankful that current and last company are focussing on this aspect
Excellence in Management
Operations excellence through making processes Lean, removing wastes and associated costs. Also, a few projects that aims towards customer delight which in-turns give edge over competitors
Team Management
I promote open door approach for team members to reach out to managers, informal chit-chats in cafeteria, etc. Inter-teams I promote folks involved in activities, like CSR activities, and any competition like cricket match or painting, etc. etc.
Family background
I belong to middle class family. Parents live in my home town Lucknow and brother is in Infosys. I live with my wife and kid. Wife is an engineering graduate and currently taken a short break for kid. Kid will start going to school in July 2013.
Awards and Recognitions
As a manager I have received "Silver award" in Genpact within 6 months of joining.
Managing personal and professional life
I try to keep a balance between numbers (being a Black belt) and perception.
Tech Management matters more on
Ideally they have edge in determining what client "actually" wants. However, operations management is different and can be gained with experience.
Influenced by
My Quality Leader in Genpact (Rohit Dhameja) has influenced me most. I have learnt from him how to be cool even in crisis, which eventually brings you out of mess. Right from people handling to numbers in six sigma, he is simply awesome.
More about me
I am blessed to have supporting family in personal life, and supporting team members in my professional life.
Leadership qualities
Leader should have excellent "Peer Management" and "Change Management" skills.
