Bangalore: Recognizing the enormous ability and potential of the three million strong community, the Barack Obama lead Government has called upon several Indian Americans to serve in his administration. In fact, there are around 30 Indian American members present in the Obama Government, who are looking after key portfolios like Treasury, Defense and Commerce departments, which is spread across the State.

Vinai Thummalapally

The son of a retired scientist, Vinai Thummalapally was the U.S. Ambassador to Belize, and also the first Indian-American ambassador in the U.S. history. By appointing his college roommate, Vinai K. Thummalapally, to the comfortable post of ambassador to Belize, President Barack Obama was seen following the footsteps of George W. Bush who also chose a college roommate as ambassador to Belize. This appointment was certainly made sighting Thummalapally significant financial contributions to the 2008 campaign.
