Bangalore: The U.S. is planning to increase the number of American students going to India, for further studies. In the coming 5 years the number of students are expected to triple, reports PTI.

“That is still far from our goal of 15,000 in five years,” Tara Sonenshine, the Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs, told Pallam Raju, the visiting Human Resources and Development Minister, in a roundtable conference.

The migration of students from India to the U.S. is quite large and it exceeds 100,000 every year, but the number of American students who studied in India in 2011-2012 stood at just 4,300. This is very less when compared to the number of students going to China.

“We have to look at what are the obstacles to getting American students to go so that we can boost interest and participation,” Sonenshine said.

According to Robert Blake, the Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, the US Government is co-coordinating with the Indian Government to simplify the education visa processes. Hopefully, once the problems are sorted out, the number of Americans graduating from India will increase.
