U.S. Medical Association Honours Indian-American Doctors

HOUSTON: A doctor from Mumbai's Hinduja Hospital and 18 Indian-American doctors are among the 113 named as Fellows by a leading medical association in the U.S. for their outstanding accomplishment in the field of infectious diseases. 

Dr Rajeev Soman of Hinduja National Hospital was named to the list of Infectious Disease Society of America (IDSA) Fellows.

Among the 18 Indian-American doctors, Dr Tasaduk N Fazili, an infectious disease specialist in Syracuse, New York, originally from Srinagar was elected this year to be Fellows of IDSA. 

Other Indian-American doctors named include Pranavi Sreeramoju, Mamta K Jain, Teena Chopra, Anuradha Ganesan, Shirish Huprikar, Waleed Javaid, Indira Brar, Harrinarine Madho Singh, Naveen Patil, Sanjay Ram, Sanjay Revanker, Vidya Sundareshan, Ramesh Nathan, Mini Kamboj, Mohammed S Ahmed, Shyamasundaran Kottilil, Keyur S Vyas and Chirag Vasa. 

The IDSA is one of the leading infectious diseases professional societies in the US. It recognises distinguished physicians and scientists from the US and around the world with its Fellows programme. 

The fellows, who were nominated by their peers had to meet specific criteria to become an IDSA Fellow, including continuing identification with the field of infectious diseases, national or regional recognition and publication of their work. Nominees were reviewed and elected by the IDSA Board of Directors. 

"Each one of these physicians and scientists has achieved an outstanding level of accomplishment in the field of infectious diseases and is a recognised leader in his or her community and institution, whether it be a hospital, clinic, research lab, or other setting," said IDSA President Stephen Calderwood. 

Fellows of IDSA work in many different settings, including clinical practice, teaching, research, public health and healthcare administration. 

Fellowship in IDSA honours those who have achieved professional excellence and provided significant service to the profession.
