BENGALURU: The world is still coming to grips with the sensational victory of Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton in a closely fought election to become the 45^th president of the United States. Riding on a wave of popular resentment against Hillary Clinton, Trump proved all predictions wrong to emerge victorious. It has been a major blow for the Democrats, who are still trying to recover from the shocking defeat. The amount of money spent by both the parties will leave you in a quandary and make you think about the need to spend such a huge amount.

Based on Federal Election Commission data, the Republican candidate got $795 million in his pocket. Meanwhile, his opponent, Hillary Clinton raised $1.3 billion, which is in itself a huge amount.

Donald Trump spent $248.6 million on campaigning, whereas, the party and joint fundraising committees raised $486.7 million. Meanwhile, the Democrat candidate Hillary Clinton spent $ 556 million on campaigning, whereas the party and joint fundraising committees raised $544.4 million. The numbers are in itself a reflection of the cost required to become the president of the most powerful and oldest democracy in the world.

Other minor expenses for the Trump camp from October 1st to 19^th include— $19.3 million on media, $14.2 million on online advertising and $3.5 million on air travel. In spite of all the spending, Trump’s campaign has lagged behind the money spent by Hillary and the Democrats. Despite having less money to work with in the final few weeks of the campaign, Trump emerged victorious and proved all the critics wrong.
