Bangalore: Mark Mustio, a state Rep. for the 37th District state Senate seat in Pennsylvania who has been racially campaigning against Indian American D. Raja (contesting for the same seat) is now in trouble as the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has withdrawn their support from Mustio. They have in turn started to support D.Raja and moreover Mustio’s race-based campaigns are facing criticism from GOP state leadership.

Thousands of mails were sent by the Mustio campaign telling why should anyone vote for a person who is behind the outsourcing of American jobs to India. There were also pictures of Indian flag and map, along with the controversial statements.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette wrote in an editorial that Mustio crossed the line “with an insidious mailing aimed at stirring up prejudices about Raja's foreign birth.”Even though, Raja is officially known as D.Raja, Mustio gave prominence to his full given name, Dakshinamurthy, in the campaigns.

Mustio denied the racial charges made against him and told that he emphasized on India since Raja sent the jobs to India. On the other hand, if the jobs were sent to China, he would have used a Chinese flag instead of the Indian one, he told the newspaper.

Mustio has now stopped the race-based campaigns against Raja, following the negative feedback he got. But Raja commented on this by telling that the damage has already been done.
