BANGALORE: More than two dozen Indian-American candidates entered the electoral fray for the crucial mid-term elections in the United States this year. And oh boy! You can say that as some of the victories have put President Obama on a grim, where the Republican Party snatched up the Senate seats to expand their foothold on the House of Representatives, and win a raft of governorships.
The elections that ranged from state governorship to the House of Representatives and state legislatures to city council seats, let’s take a look at who’s who of those Indian-Americans who won and some who are still fighting for seats, as reported by The Wall Street journal.

Nikki Haley
The 42-year-old daughter of Indian immigrants is the first woman governor of the state of South Carolina, who won a second consecutive term in the U.S. mid-term elections.
The Indian-American was declared elected with an impressive 57.8 per cent of the votes, with her rival Vincent Sheheen an American attorney and politician, trailing behind with less than 40 percent of the votes.
During her campaign, She also expressed support for traditional Republican causes — laws that restrict abortion and backed greater enforcement of immigration laws, which was well supported by top Republican leaders, including the former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, and the Governors of Louisiana and New Jersey Jindal and Chris Christie respectively.
Haley is also expected to visit India on a 10-day trade mission later this month.
