Bangalore: The Association of Indian Muslims of America (AIM) an NGO of Indian Muslims based in Washington DC demanded the immediate release of Indian journalist Kazmi, in an appeal to the PM of India, Manmohan Singh.

Kazmi was arrested by police nearly a month ago for his suspected role in the bombing of an Israeli diplomat car on February 13.So far, police did not charge Kazmi as they couldn’t come up with any evidence against him, but they are still holding him in custody. There has been wide protest against this injustice and many prominent organisations of Indian journalists such as Indian human rights organizations and other NGOs have conducted rallies previous month as a mark of protest.

Kaleem Kawaja, a member of AIM said that the organization is in full support of the rallies and protests organized in India to bring about the release of Kazmi. He also blamed the Indian police telling that they have arrested Kazmi on wrong accusations without any evidence, so as to please the Government of Israel.

But Delhi police alleges that Kazmi was in contact with a suspect in the bombing case, an accusation which Kazmi’s son Shuzaib denied. "It is completely a false statement that my father has given shelter to the blast accused. No Iranian related to this case has visited our house," Shuzaib said.

Kazmi is a senior journalist who has worked with many leading media organizations such as BBC, Iran Republic News Agency, Doordarshan and he is also in charge of ‘Media Star News and Features’, a feature agency.
