Bangalore: Vijay Sazawal, an Indian American nuclear expert has been reappointed to serve on the Civil Nuclear Trade Advisory Committee, by the U.S. Department of Commerce, reports PTI.

He will take the role of an advisor to the Government of America, on matters related to the encouragement of civil nuclear exports of goods and services from the U.S. to other countries which are in need of clean energy.

He will be in charge of the post for an additional period of 2 years.

Sazawal presently serves as the director of government programmes at USEC Inc, a leading supplier of nuclear fuel to electric utilities worldwide, reports Aziz Haniffa of Rediff.

Rebecca Blank, United States Acting Commerce Secretary reappointed Sazawal to the committee and she expressed her happiness in appointing Sazawal to the CINTAC to help “in strengthening the export competitiveness of US civil nuclear products and services.”

She said, “The CINTAC will provide consensus advice on the development and administration of programmes and policies to expand US civil nuclear exports and strengthen the competitiveness of the industry.” “The expertise you will bring to this work is especially valuable,” as reported by Aziz.

According to Sazawal, India is a land of opportunity for global nuclear power suppliers. He further adds, "India remains a land of opportunity for global nuclear power suppliers. It is possibly the only nuclear market where vendors will not be asked to compete against each other to provide the lowest bid. Each vendor works with the customer (NPCIL) using a win-win approach for success’’, reports PTI.

Sazawal was first appointed to the committee in the year 2010 by Gary Locke, the then commerce secretary.
