Indian American Prof Receives Student-Nominated Faculty Award

Bangalore: Bimal Banik, an Indian American professor at the University of Texas has been recently announced as the recipient of ‘Inspire Integrity Award’ for the year 2012 by the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

Bimal, professor of chemistry is one among the two recipients of this prestigious award, which is the only national faculty awards program nominated by students. The award recognizes the faculty and administration of the university who are full-time members of the university and who have been successful in creating noteworthy impact on the lives of the students through their classes and personality.

Banik said that he receives "extreme satisfaction" and "remarkable joy" while teaching students and moreover he also expressed his happiness by telling how honoured he was to have won this award. Banik will be awarded with an amount of $500 as personal stipend and can contribute -$500 to the charity he prefers.

Banik who completed his Ph.D from the University of Jadavpur in Kolkata was one among the winners of UT System Regents' Outstanding Teaching Award in the year 2009.
