Indian American Named 'Women of Vision' by ABI

Bangalore: Sarita V. Adve, an Indian American has been honoured with the title ‘Women of Vision’ for the year 2012 by Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology (ABI) along with two others. Sarita is currently working as computer science professor at University of Illinois based at Urbana-Champaign.

ABI aspires to develop women leaders in high-tech fields along with providing resources and programs to assist industry, academia, and government recruit. This will lead towards increase in levels of technological innovation. The firm also offers tools to assist women to boost their careers.

The other two women honoured with the recognition are-Jennifer Chayes, who is a scientist as well as MD of Microsoft Research, New England and S. Revi Sterling, Director of ICTD Graduate Studies at University of Colorado.

All three of them will be honoured at ABI’s 7th annual Women of Vision Awards Banquet which will be held on May 10 at the Mission City Ballroom in California. Kara Swisher, editor of tech news site AllthingsD.com will be the keynote speaker on the occasion.

The women of Vision Awards is given on the basis of important contributions made by women in three categories-innovation, leadership and social impact. Sarita received the award in the category of innovation, for her outstanding contributions to hardware and software memory models.

Sarita received her Ph.D. in computer science from Wisconsin University and completed her graduation in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay. Earlier, she worked as a faculty member at Rice University in Houston.
