Indian American Immigration Critic Vivek Wadhwa Awarded by U.S. Government

Washington: Indian American researcher and technology columnist Vivek Wadhwa, one of the harshest critics of the current immigration policy, was honoured by the U.S. government with a prestigious award for responsible citizenship.
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services' (USCIS) Director Alejandro Mayorka conferred the 'Outstanding American by Choice' award on Wadhwa in California yesterday.
The top USCIS award recognises the achievements of naturalised U.S. citizens through civic participation, professional achievement and responsible citizenship.
"This is the greatness of America---that it rewards people for thinking outside the box and speaking up," Wadhwa told PTI after receiving the award.
"Anyone can succeed in this country, and that is the most wonderful thing about it. I hope this provides inspiration to other Indian Americans to give back to the country that has embraced them and provided so much opportunity," he said.
Along with Wadhwa, four other naturalised American nationals were recognised with the award.
Wadhwa is a visiting scholar at Emory University, vice president of academics and innovation at Singularity University, fellow at Stanford University and holds other important position in some other universities.
Prior to joining academia in 2005, he founded two software companies.
Wadhwa, who became a naturalised citizen in 1989, holds an MBA from New York University and is the founding president of the Carolinas chapter of The IndUS Entrepreneurs (TIE), a non-profit global network intended to foster entrepreneurship.
