Breakthrough Research by an Indian in the Field of Mosquito-Borne Diseases

We all curse mosquitoes a thousand times for disturbing our sleep and most of the times coils and nets doesn’t help you escape from these blood sucking creatures. But now, a study by Anandasankar Ray, an Indian American researcher, has led to the development of Kite Patch, a small, non-toxic sticker that can block mosquitoes' ability to detect carbon dioxide (the key method mosquitoes use to track human blood). All you have to do is, place the sticker on your cloth and you will be saved from mosquitoes for 48 long hours, reports TNN.
The findings by researcher Anandasankar Ray, an associate professor of entomology, lead to the development of the patch by Grey Frandsen, Michelle Brown and Torrey Tayanaka of Olfactor Laboratories. The initial research which was carried out in Ray’s laboratory was later on featured in the journal ‘Nature’.
This development will prove to be really helpful in the fight against mosquito-borne diseases such as malaria, dengue fever etc.
"I am very excited to see how Olfactor Labs has rapidly taken our initial discovery to a product that can have great value in the war against mosquitoes and disease," Ray said. "I am most impressed that they have designed something affordable and convenient for use in Africa and around the world. I am rooting for this to become a game changer in lowering instance of malaria, dengue, filariasis and other dangerous diseases," said Ray, as reported by TNN.
