Bangalore: A career as a lawyer requires an extraordinary calling. However, becoming an attorney and gaining popularity requires enormous undertaking in terms of time constraints, commitment and financial investment.

When a dispute or controversy in politics, business, and sports or even in the private lives of public personalities makes headlines in United States, top Indian-American attorneys often grab the limelight.

As an acknowledgment to these attorneys of Indian origin, we have put together a list of Indian-American attorney generals who made it big in their field of study.

Preet Bharara

As the United States attorney for the Southern District of New York, Preet Bharara has prosecuted high-profile corruption cases and terrorism cases. But this Firozpur-born attorney is best known for going after some of the world’s biggest hedge fund companies in the Wall Street.

Among those Bharara has prosecuted are two well-known South Asians, Raj Rajaratnam, the head of the Galleon Group, who is currently serving sentence for receiving insider information from Rajat K. Gupta, a former Goldman Sachs director.

Even though Bharara’s work has been covered extensively by the local media, but less attention has given to his personal life. For starters who don’t know much, Preet was born to a Sikh father and Hindu mother in Punjab, and his family immigrated to the United States when he was just 2 years old. He currently lives with his wife and three children in a New York City suburb.
