4 Indian-Americans Selected as Members of American Academy of Arts and Sciences

Bangalore: Four Indian-Americans have been elected as members of The American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Anant Agrawal, Rakesh Agrawal, Arun Majumdar and Jitendra Malik are the Indians who made it to the prestigious academy, as reported by Pravasi Herald.

Anant is a Professor of Computer Science at Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Rakesh is a Winthrop E. Stone Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering at Purdue University, Arun serves the post of vice president for energy at Google and Jitendra works as an Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Professor at University of California, Berkeley.

Overall 198 members have been elected, which include people who have been honoured with prestigious awards such as Nobel Prize; National Medal of Science; the Lasker Award; the Pulitzer and the Shaw prizes; the Fields Medal; MacArthur and Guggenheim fellowships; the Kennedy Center Honors; and Grammy, Emmy, Academy, and Tony awards. 

A ceremony will be held at the Academy’s headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts on October 12, 2013 to introduce the new class.
