4 Indian Americans in Forbes 'Billionaires List-2012'

Bangalore: Forbes Magazine recently came up with the annual survey report of the world’s richest people, which includes four Indian American entrepreneurs who made it to the list with a total net worth of $6.3 billion. From India, Mukesh Ambani was ranked among the top 20 billionaires of the world with an amount worth $22.3 billion; 48 other Indian individuals and families are also there in the list. The four Indian Americans come from diverse fields who are well-renowned personalities and have played a vital role in the success of their organizations.

Romesh Wadwani, chairman and CEO of Symphony Technology Group, a Silicon Valley-based private equity firm emerged as the richest Indian American on the list, with a net worth of 2 billion dollars.

Wadhwani, who is the founder of Symphony Technology Group, has been successful in raising the revenue of the company to $2.5 billion. With his leadership and management experience he has taken the company to greater heights in the technology industry with a total employee count of 15,000 in less than a decade. This California based company specializes in acquisition, growth capital, and turnaround transactions.

Wadhwani “rode the tech bubble onto The Forbes 400 in 2000 with the $9.3 billion sale of Aspect Development software firm to i2 Technologies” and is now “focused on building software and services companies,” Forbes said.

Wadhwani holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of technology, Bombay. After moving to U.S in the year 1969 he received an M.S and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University based in Pennsylvania.
