Bangalore: Four Indian Americans have been charged with healthcare fraud, accounting to millions of dollars. The co-owners of Selectcare Health Inc, a health clinic from Chicago and a physician are the ones accused of fraud, reports PTI.

Ankur Roy, Akash Patel and Dipen Desai owned and operated Selectcare Health Inc., a clinic which used to supply outpatient physical and respiratory therapy, stated the federal law enforcement officials.

They submitted false billings of more than USD 4 million to Medicare and Blue Cross Blue Shield on behalf of Selectcare patients for respiratory therapy services, but they never provided these services. The health clinic had just one respiratory therapist and he was not present on the dates mentioned in the billing. The federal grand jury charged each of them with six counts of healthcare fraud.

Nalini Ahluwalia, the physician accused in the case has been charged with one count of violating the anti-kickback law for referring two patients to a home healthcare agency in 2012 and taking an amount of USD 1,000 in return.
