Android 5.0 Lollipop: What's New?


BANGALORE: With the Android claiming almost the entire Smartphone market from the time it was introduced, it has come a long way providing subsequent improvements according to the growing tech trends in the market. So, here is the newest update on the Android called the ‘Android 5.0 Lollipop’ and read on to find out about the updates and additions to the operating system as compiled by the NDTV gadgets.  

# Material Design

Starting with the Material Design, Sometime back when Google had introduced Android L, the company said that the next version will receive a completely new visual improvement for a fluid experience on the devices. So, the Android 5.0 Lollipop is just that featuring a cleaner, slimmer design with a smooth interface and animations on it.

The updations include the revamped navigation and status bar on the Android L preview. Google kept the design but the status bar now can be coloured or kept transparent featuring refreshed status icons too.

The 'Quick settings' menu has also been changed which includes new controls like flashlight, hotspot, cast screen controls and many more. There is also a new toggle for the location services with the recent apps menu or task manager now appears to be like a stack of cards instead of a list of recently open apps screenshots.

Google explains the new Material Design for Android 5.0 Lollipop as "A bold, colorful, and responsive UI design for consistent, intuitive experiences across all your devices. Responsive, natural motion, realistic lighting and shadows, and familiar visual elements make it easier to navigate your device. Vivid new colors, typography, and edge-to-edge imagery help to focus your attention."
