iPhone Users Can Now Make Free Calls Through Facebook Messenger

Bangalore: Facebook has launched free call feature to its iPhone Facebook Messenger app for the U.S. users, which requires no update through App store, reports The Verge.

According to the report, Facebook began testing free calling Wi-Fi and cellular data for its Messenger app for iPhone users in Canada first, which is expanded to U.S. now.

To make a call to another Messenger for iPhone user one has to tap the "i" button in the top-right corner, and make Free Call.

When you call another Facebook user a push notification will appear on their screen, and all that the other user got to do is tap on it.

With this single feature, Facebook emerged as one of the largest communities of VoIP users in the world. The Verge says after few tests that the call quality sounds very good, and is certainly on par with competitors Viber, Vonage, and Skype.

Facebook already integrated Skype for video calling inside Facebook website but notably its Messenger lacks this feature. Facebook offered no more information about an international rollout or VoIP calling through its Messenger for Android app, or VoIP calling through its website, but there are some speculations that these will be a reality soon.
