iOS 7 Is In A Major Revamp Under Jony Ive, Apple's Ace Designer

Bangalore: Jonathan Ive, Apple’s ace designer who is responsible for designing blockbuster gadgets like MacBook Pro, iMac, MacBook Air, iPod, iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad and iPad Mini, is now on a project to give major revamp  to company’s next mobile platform- iOS7, reports Times Of India.

Six months into his expanded role as Apple's top product visionary, Ive’s already in charge of product design and assumed oversight of the look and feel of software running all Apple electronics in a shakeup by  CEO Tim Cook last year that included the departure of software chief Scott Forstall.

Ive’s new design is to shun the realistic images for the apps such as wood bookshelves for Newsstand feature and explore the more dramatic changes to email and calendar tools which are the same since the inception of iPhone in 2007.

Ive is also said to be working on a new design for the not-so-popular map tools and he's encouraging collaboration between the software and hardware divisions, something what Jobs used to do.

Staff from Apple's Mac team is also said to be roped in to finish the job sooner. Apple has made similar moves in the past, including with the first version of iOS in 2007. Ive and the team are racing to finish iOS7 in time for a June preview at Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference. Though the new OS is expected to be released as soon as September, the internal testing of the iOS7 may push it for a later than the expected time.
