Yahoo Chairman Resigns

Yahoo Chairman Resigns

Bangalore: Yahoo’s Chairman Fred Amoroso has resigned and will not be seeking re-elections in the annual shareholder’s meet in June.

Though he has stepped down from the role, BI reports that he will officially remain on the board through the shareholder’s meet on June 25.

According to a press release , Amoroso said, “I’m very grateful and proud of the progress Yahoo has made over the past year.” He also added that when he took the position as chairman, his intention was to serve for a year, to help the company during its critical time of transformation.

With regards to Marissa Mayer’s leadership in hand, he felt that this was the ‘natural time’ for him ‘to transition off the board’, according to what he said a year ago. Reports also say that the board will see 10 members after the annual meet.

However, Business Insider has certain specific reasons for Amoroso’s resignation this year. Firstly, he wasn’t Mayer’s first choice. Though there were no bad relationships, this might have been out of credibility and trust. Secondly, Amoroso was appointed by Roy Bostock – former chairman of Yahoo who has been blamed for running a ‘slow moving board’, getting Yahoo into horrible situations. Thirdly, senior executives at Yahoo thought that Amoroso has taken Yahoo into disastrous situations with a patent law suit against Facebook. People thought so because he came from Rovi, which is known for getting lots of revenue by suing other companies based on patent infringement.
