Yahoo Beats Google In Web Traffic For The First Time In 2 Years

Bangalore: Finally, the pain Marissa Mayer is taking to revamp Yahoo! has paid off. The company which was shadowed by Google has leapfrogged to the top position in terms of web traffic in U.S. The Yahoo! sites had 196,564,000 unique visitors in July where as Google sites had 192,251,000 unique visitors, as for the research report by comScore. This is only the second time that Yahoo achieved the amazing feat, the last one being in May 2011.

The comScore report says that it did not combine the figures of Yahoo and Tumblr. “Tumblr is not currently included in the Yahoo! Sites roll-up. Seems there are other factors at play, and given how close Yahoo Sites and Google have been in recent months it can likely just be normal seasonal/month-to-month fluctuations,” the comScore said.

The company lately had done many revamps which include a redesigned Yahoo! Search for desktop and mobile, re-launching Flickr with filters and 1TB space for users. Yahoo will also be unveiling a new logo on September 4. The company is also coming up with Flickr app for Android and iOS, along with Yahoo Weather app and Yahoo Mail app, according to reports from FirstPost.

Under Mayer’s leadership the company made 17 acquisitions, most notably Tumblr, for $990 million, and popular news-aggregating app Summly for $30 million.

According to  a Reuter report, Mayer is focusing now on video. “It’s clear to me that our video business is something that’s growing a lot. It’s something that we’d like to accelerate,” she said.
