Wipro Signs Multi-Year IT Infrastructure Deal With Corning

NEW DELHI: Country's third largest software services firm Wipro has bagged a multi-year IT infrastructure deal from specialty glass and ceramics maker Corning.

Through this strategic collaboration, Wipro will make Corning's IT services more resilient to market volatility and enhance performance and operational efficiency, the tech major said in a statement.

The solution will be delivered as a multi-year managed service from Wipro's global delivery and data centres, it added.

"The relationship between Corning and Wipro is anchored by the synergy of our core corporate values and we look forward to fostering an environment to support Corning in achieving its growth objectives," Wipro Chief Executive N S Bala said.

Manufacturing and Hi-tech segment accounted for 18.6 percent of Wipro's revenues in FY2013-14 with a year-on-year growth of 1.3 percent.

"Wipro provides IT capabilities that enable scalability, technology enhancements and resourcing flexibility in a cost-effective package. We look forward to this collaboration and view Wipro's role as critical in the delivery of our IT strategy," Corning Senior VP and Chief Information Officer Kevin McManus said.

Wipro in February signed 10-year IT and BPO services contract with UK-based Carillion that was reportedly worth 'well over $100 million'. Wipro announced it had been selected as sole preferred global strategic partner to provide integrated IT and BPO services. Carillion operates across multiple industry sectors in the UK, Middle East and Canada, providing solutions, including project finance, design, construction and support services.

In April, Wipro posted a 29 percent rise in its fourth-quarter net profit, beating expectations, helped by increased IT spending by its customers.
