Windows 8 Sale Covers 40 Million In First Month: Microsoft

Bangalore: It seems like Microsoft’s dreams with new operating system is taking a real form as according to the latest statistics from the CFO of Windows division, the new touch centric operating system has sold 40 million licenses in the first month of its launch.

“We believe Windows 8 is shaping up is as one of the company’s most successful products,” said Tami Reller, Microsoft’s chief marketing officer and chief financial officer for Windows at a conference in Arizona. If the statistics are to be believed, the Windows 8 upgrades are outpacing its generally well-received predecessor Windows 7, in a faster rate. Windows 7 had sold just over 60 million units in the first 10 week when it was released in late 2009.

While addressing the criticism on user interface of Windows 8, Reller said, “When people experience Windows 8, they do find it is easy to get started and fun to learn. We know from the data we’re getting in that customers do indeed get the product.”

However according to a report from StatCounter, a total of around 15 million out of 1.5 billion personal computers exist in the world is actually running Windows 8.

Reller, who had made her first public appearance after she was named as one among the two executives along with Julie Larson-Green to run the Windows unit, said that the unit has survived President Steven Sinofsky’s surprise departure.
