Why It's Time For A Google Smart Watch

Bangalore: Google is working on its own smart watch, that would be able to give directions, retrieve product information, display email notifications, play music, much like a Smartphone, and more, reported Business Insider.

BI also reported that, back in October, Google secured a patent for its watch with a flip-up display, which tells it all, the search giant is quite serious about bringing out its own brand of devices.

Kevin C. Tofel, of GIGaom reasoned why it’s time for Google smart watch.

Hello Moto

The primary reason is that, Google already has a smart watch in the market by the name Motorola MotoActv. Though Google kept Motorola as a separate business since its acquisition in 2011, for all intents and purposes, Motorola’s produce is Google’s produce.

Initially the little gadget was ideal for tracking jogging and running activities, it was also packed with sensors, radio, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, and accelerometer. It also has flash storage of 8 to 16 GB, so one can enjoy music on the go either with wired or wireless headphones. Later the device got android platform and hence opened up for huge number of apps, morphing itself from an exercise tracker to a device with Smartphone capabilities.

So it’s too obvious to expect a blockbuster smart watch from Google.

Google’s Project Glass

Google is actively involving into futuristic technology, be Project Glass or self driving cars.

Project Glass is a research and development program by Google to develop an augmented reality head-mounted display (HMD). Project Glass products would display information in Smartphone-like format hands-free and could interact with the Internet via natural language voice commands. It will run on Google's Android. Developer edition of Google’s Project Glass is made available at $1,500; it’s not a consumer device yet.

Project Glass is being developed by Google X Lab, which has worked on other futuristic technologies such as self-driving cars.

Google, powered with such innovations, leaves behind any skepticism about making an awesome smart watch.
