Why Is Facebook Asking Employees To Replace iPhones With Androids

Bangalore: Most tech giants and even startups in Silicon Valley promote the use of Apple devices in campus. Yahoo’s new CEO Marissa Mayer is even planning to give free iPhones to employees.  In a scenario like this, no wonder why Facebook’s reported act of asking its employees to replace their iPhones with Android devices raise suspicion.

According to a report from Business Insider, the informal yet unconfirmed iPhone ban decision has nothing to fabricate a hot debate with Apple. It is just an attempt make the Facebook’s Android app up to date. There have been complaints from Android owners over the months that their Facebook App is not as polished as iPhone’s. The Facebook’s management had finally realized this and believes that the only way employees will take fixing it seriously is “if they have to deal with its issues day in, day out."

According to BI, this type of practice in tech companies is called 'dogfooding,' which originated from the phrase 'eating your own dog food.'

Facebook has not revealed any news on this, but the ban leaked out through ex- Facebook employees and people close to the company.

Moreover, as the social network now concentrates more on the monetization in mobile field, a superfast app for android will be of first preference, as this OS powers almost half of world’s Smartphones.
