Twitter Introduces Vine, The Video Tweet

Bangalore: Twitter is introducing a new feature on the site for Smartphone users, a video tweet. The social media forum most popularly known for its 140 character messages hinted at the update on Thursday.

The service called Vine will now enable users to record six second long video clips and post it along with their tweets. Now, you can tweet with a sound.

The site already allowed sharing videos with the embedded feature but now it will be hosting short clips with this new feature. "Like tweets, the brevity of videos on Vine (six seconds or less) inspires creativity," Michael Sippey, a Twitter vice president, said on the company's blog.

Twitter’s emphasis on delivering video content through its network has stirred speculation whether the site will evolve to host longer content and eventually grow into a media broadcaster.

Twitter has 500 million registered users as of 2012, generating over 340 million tweets daily and handling over 1.6 billion search queries per day. Privately held twitter is expected by analysts to go public within two years.
